Is It Possible That No One Wants Tito?
From MMA Junkie:

Former UFC champion and current free agent Tito Ortiz is once again negotiating with nearly all of the sport's top players, including Affliction, EliteXC, the American Fight League and even the UFC.

I discuss the topic in this week's "MMA Insider" column for the Dayton Daily News.

Although Ortiz announced earlier this month that he was on the verge of signing a "record-breaking" contract with Affliction, no official announcement has been made. And there may be a reason why.

According to some industry insiders, Ortiz has again been hosting meetings with representatives from all the above mentioned fight promotions. Some of the meetings have been happening as recently as this past weekend, meaning a deal with Affliction isn't quite the deal done Ortiz led us to believe.

As mentioned in the column, Ortiz is winless in his past three fights. In fact, aside from a couple of wins over Ken Shamrock, Ortiz hasn't posted a clear-cut victory in nearly four years.

If any other fighter was winless in his past three, I think you'd be hard pressed to find an organization that wouldn't kick him to the curb.

I love what Tito did for the sport but his best days are behind him. Noone's going to give him crazy money. He's just not worth it anymore. He'll get good money for his name but he needs to backoff his "record-breaking" contract requirements.

As much as I love Tito as a fighter, it's very true. Settle in at Affliction and run off 3 in a row and then maybe he can get a better deal...he's gonna have to do it with his fighting not his promos...we all know that Punishment Athletics is kicking ass

Agreed. Ortiz will have to prove his value in the ring, as his name alone may not hold the promotional value it once did. He is among the most well known MMA fighters, but as mentioned above, it's been a long time since he had a convincing victory against a top opponent. Personally, I'd still like to see him make a strong come-back, show up ripped and ready to rumble, take a high caliber opponent down to the mat and pound him out like he used to, but only Tito can make that happen, if he doesn't over-value himself out of the markets available to him.

Ortiz has a good sized fan base and he can put asses in seats. However with his past few performances his stock is dwindeling. I can't see any organization paying his record dollars to obtain him. The smart move for Ortiz would be to take a short term contract with Affliction, attempt to prove his worth with some solid wins over solid opponents and raise his stock.

he needs to go to elitexc because he cant handle the ufc anymore, and he shouldn't get paid big until he starts kickin ass again

I remember Tito not finishing what he started in terms of asswhippin with Forrest. In a rematch, Forrest wins. Unless he starts showing more versatility, I'll be the first to say that he isn't a great fighter...good, yes, but not great.

I never liked him as a fighter. As a shit talker, he was funny as hell. I used to think he was bad, then I watched him live once, and he didn't impress me at all. Since then, I've been off the bandwagon.
